This book is an attempt to bring together, in a single volume, the most extensive collection of Bemba proverbs translated into English. No piece of work is ever entirely the product of a single individual; all creativity is, at its core, collective. Such is the case with this book. This collection, comprising over 700 proverbs, took more than six years to compile from various sources—word of mouth, dictionaries, letters, old Bemba publications, and contemporary works on the Bemba language and philosophy. Ultimately, the collective effort behind this book reaches into our past, our memories, and the wonderfully creative minds of our ancestors.
